Office of  Sub Divisional Officer & Sub Divisional Magistrate :

In Mumbai suburban District, there is only one Sub-Divisional Office which is headed by Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) or Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) . This office  has control and supervision over the work of  Tahsildars, Circle Officers and Talathis and Bill Collectors of all  the  three Talukas of this district. 

Duties of  Sub Divisional Officer :
The most important duties & work scope of  SDO are as follows:

Court Work : 
    - To hear all the cases filed before him  against the orders passed by the Tahsildar in connection with Record of Rights under Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966 and Tenancy cases under the Bombay Tenancy & Agricultural Lands Act, 1948 etc.

    - To hear the cases pertaining to restoration of Land to Scheduled Tribes under Maharashtra Restoration of Lands to Scheduled Tribes Act, 1974.

Competent Authority : under M.P.I.D. Act.

Magistrial Work : 
Enquiry into Police Firing cases, Police custody deaths as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate of  the District and to submit report to the Government and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) .

Excavation Permissions : Under M.L.R code, 1966 upto 1000 Brass.

Caste Certificate :  SC, ST, OBC, DT, NT  and Non Creamy Layer Certificates (Borivali Taluka).

Detection of unauthorised Non- Agriculture (NA) use or Change of use Cases and passing orders levying NAA and fine u/s 45 of Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966.

Sale Permission u/s 43 of Bombay Tenancy & Agricultural Lands Act, 1948.

Solvency Certificates : upto Rs 5 Lakhs.

Conduct of Elections : as a Returning Officer (RO) of 36 - Vandre Assembly Constituency.

E.R.O.  of 36- Vandre :  Registration of Voters , Revision of Electoral Rolls etc.

Other Functions :  Under various Act and as per the orders of the Government.
